Mission

To transform the lives of the people of Tetu Constituency by professionally managing available resources as well as create an enabling environment for the economic empowerment and prosperity of all constituents.

Discover Tetu

  • Tetu Constituency is located in Nyeri County, Kenya.
  • It covers an area of 283 square kilometers and has a population of about 100,000 people.
  • The constituency is made up of three wards: Wamagana, Dedan Kimathi and Aguthi-Gaaki
  • Tetu constituency takes pride in nurturing historical figures such as Dedan Kimathi Waciuri, Muthoni Kirima, and Nobel laureate Wangari Maathai.
  • Tetu Constituency has a diverse economy, with agriculture being the main economic activity. The area is known for producing coffee, tea, macadamia, avocados, dairy and other food crops. Other economic activities in the area include trading, manufacturing, and tourism.
  • In terms of infrastructure, the constituency enjoys a very good road network comprising of tarmac roads and well maintained Murram roads. We have several planned and on-going tarmac road project especially the Mau Mau roads
  • Tetu Constituency is represented by Hon. Geoffrey Wandeto, who was elected MP in 2022. He is implementing his 10-point agenda as shown below.

OUR 10-POINT PRIORITY AGENDA (2022-2027)

Education

  • Streamline NG-CDF bursary scheme to ensure increased benefit for the poor and vulnerable.
  • Mobilize youth to enroll in technical colleges to acquire employment skills
  • Create centers of excellence by upgrading 4 secondary schools to extra- county level
  • Upgrade physical facilities in our schools
  • Improve schools’ performance through motivation and reward schemes for students and teachers.

Infrastructure

  • Lobby for the upgrade of a minimum of 100km of roads within Tetu to tarmac status, including the remaining key link roads.
  • Work towards improving electricity connectivity from the current 87% to achieve 100% coverage.
  • Enhance water access for irrigation by completing ongoing projects and initiating new ones.
  • Lobby construction of a Gura and Muhoya Dams to improve water intake in the Aberdare

Youth Empowerment

  • Link youth to job opportunities in Tetu and beyond.
  • Creation of youth groups focusing on Agribusiness.
  • Establishment of cottage industries focused on agro-processing and light manufacturing to create local job opportunities.
  • Rehabilitate youth from drug and alcohol abuse.
  • Nurture local talent in sports, music, and arts.
  • Create a giant SACCO for boda-boda operators in Tetu.

Women Empowerment

  • Supporting registration and formalization of women groups to enable them to access government funds.
  • Empowerment seminars for women groups.
  • Support to identify and implement income-generating activities.

Men Empowerment

  • Establishment of men groups and forums focused on investment.
  • Establishment of a wellness program for men in response to societal pressures.

Health

  • Lobby the Nyeri county government to construct a level 4 hospital in Tetu.
  • Work with the county government to upgrade health facilities in Tetu.
  • Lobby for the establishment of a KMTC college in Tetu.

Growth of Urban Centres

  • Work with the county government to ensure adequate street lighting, market shades, and sanitation facilities.
  • Upgrade road conditions and tarmac feeder roads in Tetu towns and shopping centers.
  • Lobby for the establishment of Sacco offices and at least one bank branch in Tetu.

Agriculture

  • Lobby in parliament to ensure the implementation of minimum guaranteed returns for milk, tea, and coffee.
  • Ensure food security in Tetu households by working with the Nyeri county government to provide quality seeds and fertilizers.
  • Promote the production and marketing of emerging cash crops such as macadamia, avocado, and fruit farming.

Support of SMEs/Traders

  • Improve access to credit through SACCOs and national government funds.
  • Empowerment seminars and trade visits for SMEs.
  • Formalization of at least 500 businesses to enable them to access county and national government tenders.
  • Creation of vibrant business associations and linkages to the Chamber of Commerce (KNCCI).

Vulnerable Communities

  • Work with national and county governments to improve the welfare of the elderly, orphans, and persons with disabilities (PWDs).
  • Economic empowerment for PWDs.
  • Enhanced bursary programs for orphaned children.
